Where deep-tech decisions determine outcomes.

We help founders, executives, and boards make the critical technical, product, and capital decisions that determine whether deep-tech ventures scale — or fail.

From breakthrough science to commercial impact, we operate where execution risk is high and decisions are often irreversible.

When to Engage BadFish

We are typically engaged at inflection points — where strategy or technical decisions carry significant capital, execution, or governance consequences.

  • Preparing for a major funding round or investor diligence
  • Translating breakthrough science into a viable product and manufacturing pathway
  • Navigating critical product, platform, or architecture decisions
  • When execution risk threatens timelines, capital efficiency, or outcomes
  • Supporting boards and executives on technically complex, high-stakes decisions

What We Help Build

Strategy & Board-Level Judgement

Advising boards and executive teams on technically complex decisions with long-term capital, governance, and execution implications.

Product, Technology & Execution Pathways

Translating breakthrough science into executable product and manufacturing plans — grounded in real-world constraints of scale, cost, reliability, and regulatory environments.

Capital, Governance & Scale

Positioning deep-tech ventures for institutional scrutiny — aligning technical strategy with capital readiness, governance expectations, and scalable execution.

Perspective Built From Execution — Not Observation

This perspective is shaped by repeated experience building and scaling deep-tech ventures — not advising from the sidelines.

We have led product development through clinical trials, designed and built advanced manufacturing facilities, and sat in boardrooms where technical risk meets capital decisions.

We have operated in these roles, and this experience shapes how we approach strategy, execution, and governance — with a clear understanding of where companies succeed, and where they fail.

About BadFish

BadFish is an independent, founder-led deep-tech advisory firm.

We work with founders, executives, boards, and investors on technically complex, capital-intensive decisions across semiconductors, photonics, quantum hardware, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing.

We combine deep technical understanding with practical experience in product development, advanced manufacturing, and commercialisation — shaping decisions where execution risk is high and missteps carry long-term consequences.

All engagements are senior-led, hands-on, and execution-focused.

Core Team

BadFish operates as a senior, founder-led firm — with direct involvement in all engagements.

Dr Anthony Brewer

Dr Anthony Brewer

Founder, BadFish Innovation

Managing Partner & LP, Silicon Catalyst Australia

Chair, Advisory Committee — Archer Materials (ASX: AXE)

Dr Anthony Brewer is a physicist, entrepreneur, and deep-tech innovation partner specialising in translating advanced technologies into commercial products across medical devices, semiconductors, quantum technologies, and health technology.

He founded BadFish to work directly with founders, boards, and research-led teams tackling technically demanding problems; helping them turn complex science into fundable strategy, defensible IP, and manufacturable products.

Anthony operates at the intersection of technology, capital, and execution, supporting decisions where technical risk, product direction, and investment outcomes are tightly linked.

In parallel, he serves as Managing Partner and Limited Partner at Silicon Catalyst Australia and as Chair of the Advisory Committee at Archer Materials (ASX: AXE), providing board-level guidance to companies operating under institutional and public-market scrutiny.

Previously, Anthony was Chief Technology Officer at WearOptimo, where he led AI-enabled wearable biosensor development from proof-of-concept through multi-year clinical trials and the design and build of an advanced manufacturing facility.

He holds a PhD in semiconductor physics from the University of Cambridge and is an inventor on more than 45 patents.

Dr Beta Buzon

Dr Beta Buzon

Senior Consultant, Delivery

Dr Beta Buzon is a Senior Consultant at BadFish, providing delivery leadership across complex, multidisciplinary technology programs spanning medical devices, chemistry, biotechnology, and advanced manufacturing.

At BadFish, Beta leads high-impact programs from strategy through to coordinated execution in highly regulated, technically demanding environments — program management and alignment across technical teams, operations, and governance.

Examples of her work include supporting the design and development of R&D and pilot manufacturing facilities, and coordinating clinical trial delivery.

Beta's research foundation is in chemistry and biosensing, with expertise in polymers, electrochemistry, and molecular recognition, including structure-switching aptamers and SELEX.

She also brings hands-on experience building the systems around the science — from laboratory operations and equipment procurement to safety systems, team capability, and structured technical reporting to executive and board stakeholders.

She holds a PhD in Chemistry from The University of Queensland.
